Sheltering behind the ferns

The air around him was cooling and feeling moist in his lungs as he walked further down the trail into the rainforest. He stopped behind a row of tall, fern fronds. They were stretching as high as they could while their fiddleheads gradually unfurled, trying to tickle the sky with their delicate leaves. He felt sheltered and protected here, as if he could watch the world without fear of ever being found.
