Young fern in the forest

He was walking down a steep gravel path in the forest, trying to step slowly and not let his shoes slip from underneath him. He reached the bottom where the dirt had turned to mud from groundwaters building underneath. There was a patch of new fern fronds thriving in the moisture nearby. One was standing on its own, very young and delicate, with a long way to grow before it was tall and strong like those around it.
